Rhythms accompany us everywhere. It is difficult to imagine an area wherever a person comes across a rhythm. Scientists have long proved that even in the womb of the mother the rhythm of her heart calms and lulls the child. So, when does a person start feeling the rhythm? It turns out, even before the birth!
If the development of a sense of rhythm was considered from the point of view of the development of a feeling that a person was always endowed with, then people would have much less complexes and theories of their “rhythmic” insolvency. Sense of rhythm - it is also a feeling! And how do we develop our feelings, for example, the sense of taste, the sense of discriminating odors? Just feel and analyze!

The only difference in the sense of rhythm from all other senses is that rhythm is directly related to hearing. Rhythmic sensations, in fact, are part of the auditory sensations. therefore any exercises for the development of a sense of rhythm are aimed at the development of hearing. First, when musicians talk about "innate hearing", they imply a musical gift - the absolute hearing of a person who contributes to distinguishing the pitch and timbre of sounds with one hundred percent accuracy.
Secondly, if a person gains a sense of rhythm before being born, how can it be "non-inborn"? It can only be in an undeveloped state, at the level of hidden potential. Of course, in childhood it is easier to develop a sense of rhythm, but also for an adult person it is possible.
How to develop a sense of rhythm in a child?
The ideal situation is when parents are engaged in the complex development of the child immediately after birth, including rhythmic development. Songs, poems, sounds, which mom publishes during the time when she does daily gymnastics with her baby - all this can be included in the concept of “developing a sense of rhythm”.
Older children: pre-school and primary school age, you can offer:
- to recite poems with certain stress on a strong beat, because a verse is also a rhythmic composition;
- recite poems with claps or obtopes on a strong and weak share alternately;

Drums, rattles, spoons, bells, triangles, and tambourines are the most effective means for developing a sense of rhythm. If you have bought one of these instruments to your child and wish to work with him at home on your own, then invite him to repeat elementary exercises for you to develop a sense of rhythm: a sequence of equal, uniform beats or, on the contrary, beats in some whimsical rhythm.
How to develop a sense of rhythm for an adult?
The principle of exercises for the development of a sense of rhythm in an adult remains unchanged: "we listen - we analyze - we repeat", only in a more complex "design". For adults who want to develop their rhythmic flair, there are a few simple rules. Here they are:
- Listen to a lot of different music, and then try to play the melodies you hear with your voice.
- If you can play any instrument, then sometimes play with metronome.
- Reproduce the various rhythmic patterns you hear with clapping or tapping. Try to increase your level all the time, choosing more and more difficult ones from the figures.
- Dance, and if you do not know how - learn to dance: dance perfectly develops a sense of rhythm.
- Work in pairs or in a group. This applies to dancing, singing, and playing the instrument. If there is an opportunity to play in an ensemble, in an orchestra, to sing in a choir or to dance in a pair, be sure to use it!
I must say that it is necessary to work purposefully to develop a sense of rhythm - with a businesslike approach to this “thing”, the results become tangible even after one or two workouts. Exercises for developing a sense of rhythm are of varying complexity - some are primitive, others are laborious and "puzzled." Complex rhythms do not need to be afraid - they need to understand, as well as in mathematical equations.
